Acquiring the Skills to Perform Point of Care Ultrasound of the Infant Hip Through Simulation

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is most common anatomical pathology in newborns. Traditionally, standard physical exam for newborns includes stability testing using Barlow and Ortolani maneuvers. If pediatrician detects instability, then they are referred a ultrasound—the gold DDH diagnosis. We present our experience with simulation model teaching point care ultrasound examination an infant which we have successfully consistently taught numerous residents attendings how to swiftly accurately assess infant's hip.
